# Connect Claude to Occam

> **Coming soon.** Occam's AI connection is not open yet. This page describes how it will work, and access opens soon. Until then the Occam MCP server and REST API at `mcp.occam.co` do not answer, and the setup steps below cannot be completed yet.

Connect Claude to Occam so Claude can look up Occam's token metrics, write and check an algorithm, simulate it after fees, and, if you agree, create it in your account. Claude cannot trade or move funds through Occam: the API has no tool for it.

You need an Occam account. Simulating, creating and publishing also need your wallet to qualify; Claude can check with the `get_usage` tool.

Occam's MCP link will be `https://mcp.occam.co/mcp` once access opens (coming soon; it does not answer yet).

## claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude mobile

Custom connectors are added on the web and then work in the desktop and mobile apps too. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds the connector first.

1. Open Claude's connector settings at https://claude.ai/customize/connectors.
2. Click Add, then Add custom connector. If you see Custom, choose Custom, then Web.
3. Name it Occam, paste `https://mcp.occam.co/mcp` and click Continue.
4. Keep the sign-in settings Claude finds and click Continue, then Add. If Claude asks which OAuth client to use, pick Register automatically.
5. Click Connect, then approve on the Occam page that opens. Tick the permissions you want Claude to have: simulate, create, publish. Read is always on.
6. In a chat, click + and switch Occam on under Connectors.

When Claude asks to use an Occam tool, you can choose Always allow for the read-only tools. Publishing and unpublishing are marked as destructive, so Claude asks before each one.

## Claude Code

With OAuth (no key to manage):

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user occam https://mcp.occam.co/mcp
```

Then type `/mcp` in Claude Code, pick `occam`, choose Authenticate, and approve on the Occam page that opens.

With an API key (for scripts and CI): create a key at Settings, AI Integrations in the Occam app (coming soon), put it in your shell profile as `export OCCAM_API_KEY="..."`, open a new terminal, and save this as `.mcp.json` in your project. The file holds no secret, so it is safe to commit.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "occam": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.occam.co/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${OCCAM_API_KEY}" }
    }
  }
}
```

Run `claude` in that folder, approve the occam server, and check it with `/mcp`.

Claude Code can also install the Occam plugin, which adds the same server and a skill for building and backtesting a strategy:

```bash
claude plugin marketplace add occam-co/occam-claude-plugin
claude plugin install occam@occam
```

## First things to ask

- "What can Occam do?"
- "Using Occam, build me an algorithm that catches tokens between $40k and $150k market cap with more than 150 holders and under 40% bot wallets. Simulate it over the last 7 days and tell me the hit rate and median multiple after fees, then suggest one change to improve it."
- In Claude Code: `/mcp__occam__build_algorithm`

## What Claude will and will not do

- It reads metrics, checks specs and runs simulations with the permissions you ticked.
- It creates an algorithm only when you agree, and publishes only when you ask. A created algorithm is live in your account at once, unpublished.
- Simulation figures are after fees and include a held-out check. "No edge found" is a normal answer. Nothing here is financial advice.

## Disconnect

Revoke the connection, or every key and connection at once, at Settings, AI Integrations. It stops working straight away.
